Welcome to the website of the Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter
(SSA) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. We are excited to offer an online presence for the community we serve.
Since October 28, 1972, SSA has maintained a strong presence in Montgomery County, Maryland through various community service programs and social activities. As the 30th Polemarch (President), I am proud to lead the effort in continuing the work we do in Montgomery County, the State of Maryland, the Washington Metropolitan Area, and the Eastern Province of the Fraternity. We pride ourselves in our involvement with local schools, churches and civic organizations that share our commitment to encouraging our youth to realize their full potential and promote healthy and thriving communities.
Given our geographic location within the Washington Metropolitan Area and our lengthy history of impactful service to the community, the Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter is known to be at the “Top of The Diamond”! In this role, we commit ourselves individually and collectively to the betterment of our community.

A Word From the President of the MKYF
MKYF President, Lorenza Cooper
The Metropolitan Kappa Youth Foundation, Inc. (MKYF) is a public non-profit 501c(3) organization founded on philanthropic principles primarily for educational support for students within the community.
Metropolitan Kappa Youth Foundation’s mission is to provide scholarships and mentoring programs for minority and disadvantaged youth in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. The foundation supports and conducts activities with the implicit purpose of helping youth “Achieve”. Our activities include scholarships, mentoring and an urban golf initiative. The mentoring program goals are to develop leadership skills, personal enhancement and career achievement.
As a fully-functioning non-compensated non-profit foundation, our administrative goals are 1) fund raising, 2) corporate sponsorship and 3) local partnerships for the sole purpose of charitable and educational support for our students. In additional, the foundation is dependent upon individually gift giving support through regular, on-going donations which enables the foundation to operate and achieve its primary goals. Gift giving can be accomplished multiple ways: 1) MKYF.org on-line website donation, 2) individual checks to the foundation, and 3) donation support thru Amazon Smile.
