Avery McFadden

About Me

Mr. Avery McFadden is from Florence, SC and graduated from the historic Wilson High School in 1997.  In high school, he excelled at playing trumpet, and qualified for several All-State Concert and Jazz Bands, and SouthEast US Regional Honor Bands.  He was also a member of the tennis team.  After graduation, Mr. McFadden attended Jackson State University on a full scholarship where he marched in the famous Sonic Boom of the South. He was also a member of the Jazz Ensemble, and HBCU All-Star Jazz Band that traveled the nation.  It was at JSU, where he pledged the Delta Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc.  Mr. McFadden graduated with honors in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a Jazz Emphasis.  

Avery moved to NYC to play professionally and begin his career in education immediately after graduating.  Mr. McFadden soon earned a Master’s in Music Education from Brooklyn College, and a Master’s in Audio Engineering from the Institute of Audio Research.  He has taught various levels of band, jazz band and music technology in Brooklyn, NY, Charlotte, NC and is now in his 16th year of teaching at White Oak Middle School in Montgomery County.  Avery has also worked in Music Publishing and Digital Content Management at eMusic.com.  He continues to perform, compose/arrange music, and freelance as an Audio Post Production engineer.   

Mr. McFadden enjoys playing golf, tennis, snowboarding, fishing, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.  He has been married to Maiyeshia for 17 years, and they have 2 children, Khayla and Jakobe.  

Avery is passionate about building a strong foundation for future generations, and advocating for our youth to receive a quality education inside and outside of the classroom to give them the best chance at being successful.  He strongly believes that the mentorship and guidance that young men receive from being a part of Kappa League gives them the competitive advantage to achieve in whatever it is they set out to do in their lives.
